Free Kindergarten Approved Program

In the Kindy Room we look forward to having the opportunity to help teach and prepare your child for school next year.

Our focus in the Kindy Room is building confident and independent children. We are helping to develop children who are confident to join in, ask questions, be independent, be resilient and be ready for their big adventure at school. Confidence is so important when your child goes to school as it helps them to settle, be able to ask teachers for help, be able to communicate with their peers. Once your child is settled and confident, they are then able to learn. This is the principle of the Early Years Learning Framework.

“Belonging is central to being and becoming in that it shapes who children are and who they can become”

At Kindy, we develop the skills that are the foundation for all future learning.

Play-Based Learning

We teach mainly though play-based experiences. Research shows the best way for a child to learn is through playing. It has been found that children who are involved in quality play experiences, are more likely to have well-developed memory skills, language development, and are able to regulate their behaviour. This allows them to settle easier into school life and progress in their academic learning.

Physical and Mental Wellbeing

We focus on both physical and mental wellbeing, with daily activities covering both areas.

Exercise promotes self-confidence, coordination, hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, muscle development, gross and fine motor skills, cardio health, stress relief and academic success. Children build essential neural pathways needed as the conduits for left/right brain thinking tasks such as creativity, reasoning, and self-regulation through physical activity.

Mental wellbeing is so important as a child with good mental wellbeing can develop resilience to cope with challenges and changes, feel good about themselves and develop healthy, happy relationships. Our activities for mental wellbeing include dadirri, meditation, Rhee Taekwondo and yoga. We build nurturing and responsive relationships with each child to ensure they feel supported, safe and secure.

Programs

The Kindergarten Program

Our qualified early childhood teacher has implemented a Queensland Government-approved education program for our kindergarten students. Through a play-based curriculum with regular incursions and excursions, we can maximise learning before children enter primary school for an easier transition to their next stage of education. Kindy provides a lifetime of opportunities for children to:

  • Use language to communicate ideas, feelings and needs
  • Make friends, interact and cooperate with others
  • Identify issues and develop problem-solving skills
  • Become more confident and independent in their abilities
  • Connect with, explore and contribute to their world
  • Build their knowledge and explore new ideas
  • Have Fun

Moving Smart Program

At Cradle to Crayons, we recognise the importance of children’s early movements in shaping their overall development. Through the Moving Smart Program, and by incorporating Smart Steps activities into the program, we harness the power of movement to nurture intellectual, emotional, social, and physical growth. Our educators offer a diverse range of indoor and outdoor activities designed to ignite children’s curiosity and inspire learning.

Children can build body-brain connections and develop physical, cognitive, social and emotional foundations for early learning and school readiness using the Smart Steps step-by-step activities. Children explore and engage in play-based learning experiences and games that promote:

  • The Senses
  • Balance (Vestibular)
  • Intuition (Proprioception)
  • Power
  • Coordination and Control

Our Nature Play Program

Children benefit tremendously from participating in Cradle to Crayons' regular nature play and learning sessions. It brings many areas of development alive as children focus on real results and consequences. Our nature play sessions also provide experimental opportunities, allowing children to respond positively to challenges and responsibilities, manage risk, and cope with change. Through active outdoor learning and frequent nature play, children have the opportunity to engage in unstructured play activities where natural elements are featured.

Abecedarian Approach

3a, also known as the Abecedarian Approach, is an evidence-based approach to delivering enhanced educational outcomes for children by implementing high-quality teaching strategies. It focuses on four elements:

Language Priority

At Cradle to Crayons, we make every experience an opportunity to talk, listen and learn language because language forms the basis for all children's interactions and supports their ability to communicate effectively. Children experience rapid growth and development in the early years in their oral language skills and vocabulary. This crucial period sets the foundation for successful communication in the future and children's later successes in school and life.

Learning Games

Learning Games are interactive activities between an educator and one or two children, providing simple but deep learning experiences. Many of the 200 games are designed to fit in with recurring events during the day so they can be incorporated seamlessly into the Cradle to Crayon routines. They are tailored for educators to challenge or scaffold the learning and focus on play that progresses towards developing a range of skills.

Conversational Reading

Conversation reading is another way of saying interactive reading. This technique focuses on back-and-forth conversation, spontaneous reciprocal conversation and joint attention between an educator and one or two children. Children learn to understand words, recognise letters, notice and manipulate sounds, find interest in reading, and build an appreciation for books and stories.

Enriched Caregiving

In the early years, caregiving, emotional support and education are not necessarily separate activities. At Cradle to Crayons, we recognise that our care for our children and infants opens up many teaching and learning opportunities. Each interaction can imbue the child's day with educational content and developmental encouragement

Rhee Taekwondo Program

Rhee Taekwondo, a nationwide fitness program designed for children as young as three years old. More than just a martial art, Rhee Taekwondo fosters:

Focus and Concentration

Through structured training sessions, children learn to channel their focus and concentrate on specific tasks, enhancing their attention span and cognitive abilities.

Coordination and Balance

Taekwondo techniques promote balance and coordination, helping children develop agility and motor skills essential for everyday activities.

Self-Defence and Discipline

In a supportive and controlled environment, children learn the principles of self-defence while cultivating discipline and respect for themselves and others.

Memory and Mental Training

Taekwondo involves memorising sequences of movements and techniques, sharpening memory and cognitive skills crucial for academic success.

Led by qualified instructors, our Rhee Taekwondo classes provide a safe and engaging experience for children, promoting physical activity while instilling valuable life skills such as confidence, self-esteem, and independent thinking.
